People see the 3-1 scoreline, but I looked at Sam Altshuler's trembling legs as he stepped onto the podium. Beating Simion Bobi, the world No. 3 in Class 6, was more than a milestone. It was the long journey of a man who, two years ago, never thought he would reach this level. At ITTF Para Challenger Spokane, Altshuler completed the biggest shock of the tournament, winning 12-10, 4-11, 13-11, 12-10 against Bobi. The final was a cliffhanger: long rallies, fierce exchanges, and differences decided only by the ability to handle pressure in key points. Altshuler did not start with a superior technical edge. Bobi is a veteran with wide movement and an aggressive backhand. The difference was in Altshuler's serve tactics and extraordinary patience in long rallies. He repeatedly attacked Bobi's middle-court weakness, not allowing him to use his forehand freely. The first game went to 12-10, with Altshuler saving two set points. ITTF Para Elite Spokane begins August 11; then he travels to Yvelines, France, in September, before competing at the ITTF Para World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, from November 13-19.
